![]() I purchased it a year ago and I've only changed the batteries twice. If you guys are willing to spend a little extra on tuners, then I HIGHLY reccomend the Ubertuner. "If this ain't bluegrass, grits ain't groceries" The SN-8 Snark is an improvement but still dim in the sun. Me, personally, I just manually turn it on when I clip it on, then manually turn it off after I'm done tuning.Ĭorey, how bright is this tuner? The biggest problem I’ve had with tuners is seeing them outdoors. ![]() Set it to vibration mode and this won't happen. But more commonly, it happens if you leave it in microphone mode where it tries to listen for sounds and won't shut off. It won't shut off, and it will drain the battery. This can happen if you leave it in metronome mode. This is the result of not setting it to shut off automatically. Someone mentioned that they eat batteries. For some reason, none of my Snarks will pick up a note that high. But I use them on all my instruments, and have never had a problem with them reading anything except the 12th fret of a mandolin E string when checking intonation. Must be a bad connection somewhere like at the socket, I guess. I have one that only works if you twist the head just right. I do agree that the neck area is the Achilles Heel of these tuners. The metronome function is pretty worthless, IMHO. I don't think the SN-8 has any better response time than the SN-5, although some claim the black ones are "tighter" (*shrug*). ![]() I have several SN-8s, and they're all black. Is it more desirable than the SN5? Do any of the Snarks have better/quicker response times.
